New Product Launch Security Upgrade–OCP9227 Current-Limiting Protection Chip
In the design of mobile electronic devices, safety is the primary consideration—particularly when the product requires external power supply. To prevent the product from overheating or sustaining damage due to short circuits at interfaces or with external devices, current-limiting protection chips have become indispensable safety components. The OCP9227 is a current-limiting protection chip meticulously designed to meet this specific requirement.

The OCP9227 is designed for applications requiring highly integrated solutions. It enables the disconnecting of loads from a DC power supply, featuring a slowly controlled low-impedance MOSFET switch (typical value: 35 mΩ) and integrated analog functionality. The conduction characteristics, governed by an output rise-time control, prevent surge currents and the resulting excessive voltage drop across the power supply. Additionally, it incorporates over-voltage and over-temperature protection.

Triple Protection: The comprehensive protection features of the OCP9227
1. Current-limiting protection: the current-limiting value (0.1–3.5 A) can be set via the pull-down resistor of the ISET pin.
2.Reverse current blocking protection prevents unnecessary reverse current flow from VOUT to VIN in both ON and OFF states. In abnormal operating conditions, the open-circuit state minimizes low-current loss, thereby helping to meet standby power supply requirements.
3.Output OVP protection: when the output voltage reaches the OVP threshold, the power transistor will turn off to prevent damage to the chip.
The OCP9227 is commonly used in interface applications. Based on application requirements, its VOUT can withstand up to 36 V and complies with ESD system standards (IEC61000-4-2: Air discharge>15 kV; Contact discharge>8 kV). It operates within an input voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V DC, making it suitable for a wide range of consumer power management applications. The switching control is managed by a logic input, allowing direct connection to low-voltage control signals or general-purpose I/O (GPIO) interfaces without the need for external pull-down resistors.

The OCP9227 utilizes a fully "green" compatible 1.28 mm × 1.85 mm WLCSP-12B package, reflecting its commitment to environmental protection while providing high-performance, low-power solutions for mobile electronic devices.
